The Leading Carbon Standard for Scalable Regenerative Agriculture

Our mission is to mitigate climate change & contribute to food security for current and future generations.

ORMEX is the GHG emissions removal & reduction standard for regenerative agriculture, harnessing the transformative power of blockchain technology to usher in an era of sustainable farming practices at an unprecedented scale. With this innovative approach, project monitoring becomes seamless and transparent, enabling stakeholders to track every step of the journey from soil to credit. Ormex delivers high quality, high volume carbon credits, paving the way for a future where regenerative agriculture thrives, ecosystems flourish and sustainable development goals and global food security become a tangible reality.

At ORMEX, we believe that carbon storage in agricultural soils will play a significant role in climate change mitigation by providing the highest social impact and climate adaptation among carbon capture solutions.

What is regenerative agriculture and what is its potential in the fight against climate change?

Regenerative agriculture is a holistic approach to food and farming systems. It focuses on dynamically implementing sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing soil health and biodiversity and improving the water cycle, while reducing the use of synthetic inputs and increasing farmers yields.

One of the key benefits of regenerative agriculture is its ability to sequester and capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.

By implementing strategies such as limited/conservation tillage, cover cropping, crop rotation, and the application of manure and compost, regenerative agriculture promotes the accumulation of organic matter in the soil. This organic matter acts as a carbon sink, efficiently storing CO2 and reducing its concentration in the atmosphere.

Research suggests that by adopting regenerative agriculture practices on a global scale to store 1% more carbon in about half of the world’s agricultural soils, it is possible to offset up to 31 Gigatonnes of carbon dioxide a year, making it a valuable tool in the fight against climate change and contributing to food security for the current and next generations. That amount is not far from the 32 gigatonnes discrepancy between the current planned annual global emission reductions and the amount of carbon that must be cut by 2030 to stay within 1.5C.

What we do

  • 1. Certification & Issuance of carbon credits

The ORMEX STANDARD registers carbon project certifications to Project Holders. Once these are validated and verified by an independent UNFCCC auditor following the ORMEX methodology, carbon credits are issued accordingly.

ORMEX’s methodology focuses on ecosystemic regenerative farming practices promoting soil health, improved nutrient and water retention, and carbon sequestration in soils in line with the IPCC Guidelines and FAO calculation tool.

  • 2. Registry of carbon offsetting

Certified projects & verified carbon credits are added to ORMEX’s Registry and recorded on the blockchain for better transparency and trustworthiness.

Project Holders & Buyers can see their positions of their carbon credits in real time.

  • 3. Ecosystemic co-benefits monitoring

For each carbon credit, representing a ton of carbon equivalent (tCO2e), ORMEX has developed a set of ecosystemic co-benefits which are monitored on a yearly basis. This monitoring helps to ensure that projects not only mitigate greenhouse gas emissions but also contribute to broader environmental and social goals, including: environmental integrity, biodiversity maintenance and socio-economic improvements. By tracking and quantifying these co-benefits, stakeholders can better understand the holistic impact of their sustainability initiatives.
